Blue Demons Round Out November Against Valparaiso

CHICAGO – The DePaul men's basketball team will round out its eight-game homestand in the month of November on Friday as they host Valparaiso at Wintrust Arena. With a 12:30 p.m. CT tip, the game can be seen on FS1 with Wayne Randazzo and Dickey Simpkins on the call. Zach Zaidman and Dave Corzine will have the radio call on Sirius XM and DePaul Blue Demons app.
DePaul (6-0) looks to move to 7-0 for the first time since the 2019-20 season. The Blue Demons rank third nationally in three-pointers, averaging 12.8 per contest and a 41.0 percent clip. DePaul's balanced scoring attack includes nine players averaging seven or more points per game and three in double-digit figures. The wide-spread scoring effort is led by DePaul's willingness to share the ball, averaging 19.8 assists per game, a mark that ranks 12th nationally. Conor Enright leads the Blue Demons, averaging seven assists per game himself and ranking top-10 nationally.
Jacob Meyer has been a boost off the bench, leading all Blue Demons with 15.2 points per game on 46.9 percent shooting. Meyer has notched double-digit scoring efforts in every game this season and has an incredible mark of 34 games of 10 or more points in 37 career appearances. The Blue Demons bench contributes 37.7 points per game, a mark that is among the nation's leaders.
THE SERIES
DePaul leads the all-time series 17-8 against the two teams. Friday will mark the first matchup in the series since January 2021 and only the second since 1980.
LAST TIME OUT
Last Saturday, DePaul picked up its sixth win to open the season with a dominant 98-52 win against Northern Illinois. The Blue Demons controlled the entirety of the game, holding its opponent to the fewest first half points since Dec. 28, 2002. The 46-point victory also marked the largest win margin for DePaul in eight years. Layden Blocker led all scorers with a career-high 21 points and eight rebounds, while David Skogman had a season-high 11 rebounds.
SCOUTING VALPARAISO
Valparaiso (4-2) picked up its third-straight win Wednesday afternoon as they defeated Northern Illinois, 87-82. It was the Beacons highest point total against a Division 1 opponent since Dec. 2021 as Valparaiso had five players tally double-digit scoring efforts. Devon Ellis is Valparaiso's leading scorer this season, averaging 12.7 points. The junior also contributes 4.7 rebounds per game.
The Beacons rank second nationally with a 83.4 free throw percentage, while averaging over 20 made free throws per game. Valparaiso joins DePaul has a team who relies on its bench, as the Beacons rank 39th nationally with 33 bench points per game.
UP NEXT
DePaul will face its first road test of the year as a part of the BIG EAST/Big 12 Challenge. The Blue Demons will take on RV Texas Tech, Dec. 4, in Lubbock, Texas. The game is slated for an 8 p.m. start on ESPNU.
