Â
Demon Doings
DePaul looks to snap a four-game skid in which it faced four NCAA Tournament teams from a season ago including three-top 10 teams in No. 4 Texas, No. 8 Oklahoma and No. 9 Kansas State.
Â
Graduate forward Jorie Allen has provided the veteran leadership through the tough stretch and has led the Blue Demons in scoring through seven games with 18.7 points per game in addition to nearly six rebounds per contest. Allen has scored 15 or more points in each of the seven games this season.
Â
Junior transfer Taylor Johnson-Matthews has emerged as another scoring threat in a guard group hampered with injury. The Cleveland, Ohio native is coming off a career-high 17 points against Kansas State and has finished in double figures in six of seven outings in 2024.
Â
DePaul's 42 rebounds in games versus Oklahoma and Kansas State was the most by an opponent in a game for each of those teams. The Blue Demons rank third in rebounds per game in the BIG EAST at a 37.7 average while leading the league in offensive-boards with 14.6 per game.
Â
Welcome Home, Sam
The Blue Demons will welcome home one of their own on Sunday as SIUE head coach and former four-year letterwinner Sam-Quigley Smith returns to Chicago for the first time since taking over in southern Illinois.
Â
Quigley-Smith played for Head Coach Doug Bruno from 2006-2011 and has her name all over the DePaul record book. In her four year career, she became a two-time All-BIG EAST performer was named a Nancy Liberman Award Finalist twice. The Joliet, Ill. native remains top-30 in all-time scoring with 1,273 points while ranking top-10 in three additional categories including games played (134), three-point field goals made (187) and career assists (484).
Â
SIUE Notes
The Cougars are 1-4 on the season and are coming off an 81-71 loss to Central Florida on the road last week. Sharing just one common opponent with DePaul, SIUE dropped a 57-52 decision to Loyola Chicago in mid-November.
Â
Through five games, juniors Brianna Wooldrige and Macy Silvey are averaging 10.8 and 10.2 points per game respectively to lead the Cougars.
Â
SIUE was picked to finish eighth in the Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll in October after a 5-26 record a season ago including a 2-16 mark in league play.
Â
Sam Quigley-Smith is in her fourth season leading the program in Edwardsville and is 27-66 overall.
Â
Series Stuff
Sunday's matchup will be the sixth all-time meeting between the two programs and third hosted in Chicago.
