CHICAGO – DePaul's Luca Iaccino and Noeh Hernandez were recognized by the BIG EAST Conference on Monday for their individual performances in DePaul's 5-3 win over Butler to close out the regular season. Iaccino earned Freshman of the Week honors while Hernandez collected his fourth honor roll certificate of 2024.
Â
Iaccino made the most of his 38 minutes on the pitch as a reserve on Saturday against the Bulldogs, netting the game winner and first goal of his collegiate career. In the 31st minute, the Rolling Meadows, Ill. native was the beneficiary of a great ball across in transition from Hernandez for him to hammer it home with his right boot to make it a four nil game before halftime.
Â
For the season, Iaccino has appeared in seven matches and logged 175 minutes while firing a pair of shots.
Â
Adding to his point total, Hernandez totaled a goal and a pair of assists on Saturday afternoon to lead the Blue Demons to the postseason for the first time since 2016. The sophomore converted on a penalty kick, his second of the season, in the 21st minute to double DePaul's advantage before providing the helpers on DePaul's next two tallies.
Â
Hernandez has 25 points this season, second in the BIG EAST Conference, and 15th among all Division I players. His assist total (9) is first in the league and top-10 nationally.
Â
The Blue Demons begin postseason play on Saturday, Nov. 9 with a BIG EAST Quarterfinal match against top-seeded Akron. First touch from First Energy Stadium is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT with live coverage carried on FloFC.
