DePaul looks to start the season 2-0 for the second-straight season and third time in the last four seasons after a convincing 73-52 win over Mercyhurst in Wednesday's opener at Wintrust Arena.
In the victory, DePaul used a 20-2 second quarter run to power past the vising Lakers. Jorie Allen led all scorers with 21 points on 65-percent shooting from the field to go with nine rebounds while junior guard Taylor Johnson-Matthews netted a career-high 17 points on the day.
The Blue Demons exploited the height advantage, dominating points in the paint 32-8 and outrebounding the Lakers 47-22. On the boards, DePaul owned 20 offensive rebounds while holding Mercyhurst without a second-chance opportunity all contest.
Saturday's matchup begins a rugged November stretch for DePaul which will face five NCAA Tournament teams from a season ago in its next six contests.
Jill M. Pizzotti is 1-0 as interim head coach of the Blue Demons.
