DePaul Takes Down FGCU, 4-2, for First Win in 2024

Eleanor Nobbs leads Blue Demons to victory with 2-0 day
FORT MYERS, Fla. – DePaul women's tennis claimed its first victory of the 2024 season on Thursday with a 4-2 win over Florida Gulf Coast. In a match rescheduled from Jan. 12, the Blue Demons won the doubles point to earn an early advantage before Emily Casati, Greta Carbone and Eleanor Nobbs each owned their singles matches to defeat the Eagles.Â

DePaul (1-3) started strong with a pair of doubles match victories. The tandem of juniors, Eleanor Nobbs and Eva Goncharov picked up their first doubles win of the dual season putting the Scarlet and Blue out in front early with a decisive 6-1 triumph.

With the Blue Demons and Eagles deadlocked at one win apiece, graduate students Yuliya Kizelbasheva and Emily Casati clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Gabriela Macias/Isabella Colmenares. The duo improved to 9-5 overall this season out of the No. 2 doubles slot.Â

In singles play, Eleanor Nobbs battled on court three after losing a tight first set, 5-7. The junior won the following set 7-6 (8-6) and the deciding third set 6-3 over Ida Ferding to clinch the match for the Blue Demons. Nobbs will aim to notch a third-straight singles match victory on Friday against Georgia State.Â

At No. 5 singles, Carbone contributed to DePaul's success. In a straight set win, the senior collected her first singles win in dual action this season with a dominant 6-3, 6-3 showing.Â

On court six, Emily Casati picked up a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Lola Glantz. Casati and company will look to continue building momentum with a pair of matches remaining this weekend.Â
