DePaul to play a trio of weekend matches in Fort Myers and Boca Raton, Fla.
CHICAGO – DePaul women's tennis returns to Florida for its rescheduled match against Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday prior to a weekend tilt to face Georgia State and Florida Atlantic.Â
For the second time in three weeks, the Blue Demons travel to Fort Myers, Fla. to take on Florida Gulf Coast at the FGCU Tennis Complex. On Jan. 12, the season-opener was postponed due to inclement weather. The Blue Demons face the Eagles on Thursday with first serve at 12:00 P.M. CST.Â
Following Thursday's competition, DePaul will take the trip to Boca Raton, Fla. in a pair of meetings with Georgia State and Florida Atlantic. The match against the Panthers is set for Friday, Feb. 2 at 11:00 A.M CST. The Blue Demons face the Owls on Sunday, Feb. 4 beginning at 12:00 P.M. CST. Both matches will be held in the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center.
DePaul (0-3) enters play after falling in both matches last weekend while facing Nebraska and Harvard. The bright spots for the Blue Demons this season have been through doubles play. The No. 1 doubles tandem, senior Greta Carbone and sophomore Hannah Smith won both of their matches against the Cornhuskers and the Crimson.
Florida Gulf Coast has begun the dual season 0-3 after coming off a 16-7 campaign a year ago that saw an Atlantic Sun semifinals appearance. Head Coach Courtney Vernon is in her 11th leading the Eagles. Florida Gulf Coast dropped its last match 5-2 against FAU.Â
Georgia State (0-2) opens the weekend after dropping straight-set matches on the road versus Clemson and No. 23 Georgia Tech. Second-year Head Coach Le'Trone Mason helped the Panthers to a 16-7 record in the 2021-22 season.Â
Florida Atlantic (2-1) comes into play following victories against Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast. No. 1 singles, Panna Bartha is 3-0 in dual action this season.
