Blue Demons Set for Pair of Matches in Badger State

DePaul to face Boise State and No. 24 Wisconsin this weekend
CHICAGO – DePaul women's tennis will take the trip north to Madison, Wis. this weekend to face Boise State before matching up with host No. 24 Wisconsin.Â

The meeting between the Blue Demons and Broncos is the second match in program history. In the lone previous match, DePaul secured a 5-2 victory during the 2010 campaign. First serve is Saturday, March 2 at 2:00 P.M. CST at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.Â

The Scarlet and Blue will conclude the weekend in a morning match versus the Badgers. The last competition between the two programs came during the 2021-22 season with DePaul falling 1-6 at home. Yuliya Kizelbasheva was a bright spot during the last contest, notching a victory in the No. 1 singles spot. The match begins Saturday, March 3 at 11:30 A.M. CST at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

DePaul (8-5) is on a three-game winning streak including wins over BIG EAST foes UConn and Butler to open conference play. The Blue Demons dominated the Huskies in a 7-0 shutout. The duo of Emily Casati and Kizelbasheva started out strong, picking up their first victory in the No. 1 doubles slot, 6-4. Momentum continued in singles play with DePaul recording four straight-set wins to take full control of the match. Freshman Sasha Stula earned the first victory of her collegiate dual career with a 6-4, 6-1 defeat of the Huskies' Isabel Petri Bere on court three. Eleanor Nobbs clinched a No. 1 singles triumph 6-0, 5-7, 1-0 (10-2).Â

The Blue Demons tallied its tenth-straight win over Butler in the second BIG EAST conference match of the season on Sunday. DePaul collected a 5-2 victory, in part, due to a quick start in doubles action. Casati and Kizelbasheva commanded a 6-0 win on court one before juniors Eva Goncharov and Nobbs clinched the match with a 6-3 advantage. The tandem of Goncharov and Nobbs sit at an 11-3 overall record to enter the weekend.Â

Nobbs carried the doubles performance into singles action with the second consecutive victory in the No. 1 slot. The English native took an early 6-3 lead and rebounded after falling in 6-7 (4), to win the tiebreaker set 6-4 over Natalie Boesing. The pair of undefeated matches awarded Nobbs the BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week. Carbone turned in another masterful performance, besting Norah Balthazor 6-1, 6-1 on court four.Â

Boise State (2-4) travels to Wisconsin amidst a two-game losing streak including a 2-5 home loss its last time out against Minnesota. Nicole Discenza is 12-5 overall including a 4-2 record in the dual season. Â Head Coach Beck Roghaar has led the women's tennis program over the last 14 seasons. Roghaar was named the 2018 Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year and directed the Broncos to nine winning campaigns in that time.

No. 24 Wisconsin (6-2) enters the weekend winners of three-in-a-row with losses to No. 6 Texas and No. 20 Georgia Tech The Badgers are undefeated in two home matches this season including a 7-0 victory over Marquette. No. 86 ranked singles Maria Sholokhova leads the Badgers with a 5-3 dual record on court one this season. Head Coach Kelcy McKenna is in her eighth season at the helm of the women's tennis program. Last year, Wisconsin compiled a 20-7 record including a victory against No. 41 LSU in the NCAA tournament.Â
