Two Blue Demons are set to compete for the 2024 season
CHICAGO – DePaul women's soccer seniors Elena Milam and Beth Smyth have announced that they are returning to the team for their final season of eligibility. Smyth will be returning as a fifth year midfielder and captain while Milam comes back as a sixth-year goalkeeper.Â
Â"I am so grateful to both Beth and Elena for their loyalty and dedication to DePaul Women's Soccer," said head coach Michele O'Brien. It is so evident the gratitude and passion they have for our program. To have a fifth and sixth year veteran player, who have gone through their careers as a Blue Demon, is invaluable. They have been instrumental in continuing to set standards and help lead the program and culture in a positive direction."
ÂMilam, a Seattle Wash. native, finished this past season with four shutouts, including two against conference opponents Seton Hall and Villanova. She played every minute of the season in net, tallying a team-high 1,530 minutes played. She led the BIG EAST with 90 saves, accumulating an .811 save percentage and averaging a conference-high 5.29 saves per game.Â
Â"I chose to stay for another year because there is genuinely no one else I would want to finish my collegiate career with", said Milam. "This team is family and believes in things bigger than us which is so special to me. I am inspired and encouraged by my teammates everyday and can't wait to see what this year has in store for us."Â
Â
Smyth, an international talent from Manchester England, played in all 17 of DePaul's matches alongside Milam this past season. The Blue Demon logged 1,209 minutes on the pitch. She tallied a team-high 12 shots on goal, recording three goals including two back-to-back game winners against Eastern Kentucky and UIC.Â
Â"I chose to stay and take my 5th year at DePaul because I love the team and my teammates so much and know that we have so much potential for next year."
ÂHead coach Michele O'Brien and her staff welcome back 23 letterwinners from a season ago and will announce the full spring competition schedule soon.Â
