DePaul Drops Saturday Matchups

Brooke Johnson plates runs against two top-25 teams on Saturday
FULLERTON, Calif. - DePaul softball dropped two matchups at the Judi Garman Classic on Saturday, falling to No. 18 UCLA 9-1 and No. 17 Texas A&M 10-2.
Fifth year senior Brooke Johnson recorded one run and one hit in each of DePaul's (3-14) games on Saturday.
Freshman Brooke Cwick poured in hits against UCLA and Texas A&M, while Riley Pool and Bibianna Rodriguez tallied two hits each against Texas A&M.
Bella Nigey (2-5) got the start against UCLA, going 4.1 innings with five runs on nine hits. Brenna Smith came in as relief in the fifth giving up four runs.
Katey Pierce (0-5) started against the Aggies while Smith appeared in relief for the second consecutive game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1 - DePaul 1, UCLA 9
Johnson drew a leadoff walk in the first inning and was advanced to second on a ground ball by Pool. Cwick knocked a single to right, scoring Johnson for an early 1-0 lead.
UCLA (10-6) got on the board in the third off of a double and a single and took the lead, 2-1. An error in the fourth and a single pushed the Bruins lead, 3-1. Three home runs and a single gave UCLA the deciding score of 9-1.
Game 2 - DePaul 2, Texas A&M 10
Johnson hit a leadoff double while Baylee Cosgrove pushed Johnson to third with a ground out. Pool reached base on an error, allowing Johnson to score, 1-0.
Texas A&M (20-2) tied the game on a single and an error, 1-1, in the second. The Aggies then took the lead in the third with a fielder's choice, 2-1. A seven-run fourth inning put Texas A&M ahead, 9-1.
Bibianna Rodriguez singled up the right side while Cosgrove tallied a double to score Rodriguez, 9-2. The Blue Demons threatened but left two runs abroad in the fifth.
Texas A&M took the win after two walks and a single to go up, 10-2.
UP NEXT
DePaul wraps up the Judi Garman Classic with matchups against San Jose State and Fresno State on Sunday. First pitches are set for 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. CT, respectively.
