DePaul Draws Seton Hall in BIG EAST First Round

Blue Demons and Pirates face off at 12:30 p.m. CT on FloHoops
UNCASVILLE, Conn. – DePaul women's basketball opens the 2024 BIG EAST Tournament on Friday, March 8 with a first-round matchup against seventh-seeded Seton Hall. Tipoff inside Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. CST with coverage on FloHoops.

Noting the Blue Demons
DePaul looks to put together a postseason push after dropping its final six contests of the regular season including a 68-66 heartbreaker at the buzzer in the regular season finale at Villanova.
Forward Jorie Allen has come on strong in the final stretch of the season, averaging 13.8 points and 6.4 rebounds in the final five games while shooting 58-percent from the field.
Graduate student guard Anaya Peoples was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team on Thursday after averaging team-highs of 17.2 points per game and 8.1 rebounds. Peoples also paces the Blue Demons in assists, blocks and steals.
The Blue Demons defensive pressure has forced opposing teams into 17.4 turnovers a game, the highest clip in the BIG EAST. Peoples alongside teammate Katlyn Gilbert rank top-25 in the country in steals with 74 this season.
Tournament History
The Blue Demons are 27-13 all-time in the BIG EAST Tournament and 47-26 in league tournaments overall including stints in the North Star, Great Midwest and Conference USA.
DePaul enters the BIG EAST Tournament as the 10 seed for just the second time in 19 tournament appearances with the last occasion coming in 2007. The Blue Demons are 5-0 all-time against seven seeds and 4-1 in First Round games.
In the series between DePaul and Seton Hall, the Blue Demons are 4-0 in postseason play. The last matchup came in the 2020 semifinals, an 83-80 DePaul victory at Wintrust Arena.

The Pirates are 16-13 overall and posted an 8-10 record during the conference regular season to earn the seven seed in the league tournament. On the last day of the regular season, Seton Hall played then-No. 23 Creighton to the wire, but fell 72-65 at Walsh Gymnasium.
Graduate forward Azana Baines, an All-BIG EAST First Team selection, paces the Pirates with team-highs of 15.0 points and 6.1 rebounds a game. Sophomore Micah Gray joins Baines in double figures with 11.7 points a contest.
Series Stuff
The Blue Demons own the overall series with the Pirates, 25-8, including a 2-0 mark in neutral site games.
In the lone game between the two teams this season, Seton Hall claimed a 91-78 victory inside historic Walsh Gym with Peoples posting a near triple double behind 25 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.
