DePaul Battles Xavier on Senior Day

Blue Demons close out the regular season in front of home faithful
CHICAGO – DePaul women's tennis returns to XS Tennis Village one last time this season on Saturday, April 13 for a clash between two of the top teams in the BIG EAST when Xavier makes the trip to Chicago. The two sides will square off at 11 a.m. CST with a brief senior day celebration honoring Greta Carbone, Emily Casati, Yuliya Kizelbasheva and Mayya Perova taking place prior to the match.
The two programs have split the previous 14 meetings with DePaul boasting a 4-1 home record in the series. The Musketeers have won the last five matchups.
DePaul (15-6) enters the regular season finale at a torrid pace. Riding a six-game winning streak, DePaul took care of business on its East Coast road trip last weekend, dominating St. John's and Seton Hall to the tune of a pair of 4-0 victories. The Blue Demons are 7-0 against BIG EAST opponents this season.
Against the Red Storm, DePaul secured the doubles point behind a victory from the No. 1 tandem of Carbone and sophomore Hannah Smith in a 6-4 win. Carbone carried doubles success into singles play with a decisive 6-2, 6-0 advantage over Nicoline Sartz-Lunde on court three. Casati claimed a straight-set triumph at No. 5, 6-0, 6-4, continuing the best season of her collegiate career. In a battle with the Pirates, the duo of Casati and Kizelbasheva turned in a dominant 6-0 performance on court two improving their win-streak to nine matches. Carbone and Smith jumped out to a fast start against Ventosa/Moen tallying a 6-1 win on court one. The duo is 10-3 as the No. 1 option for Head Coach Marisa Arce. On the heels of a perfect weekend, the tandem was awarded with the BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week. In singles competition, Smith executed with perfection winning 6-0, 6-0 on court one. At No. 4 singles, Kizelbasheva picked up a point for the Blue Demons with a 6-0, 6-2 advantage. Casati collected her 13th-straight win securing a 6-2, 6-0 victory on court five. .
Xavier (14-5) begins the weekend with a match in Milwaukee, Wis. against Marquette before heading to the Windy City. Last time out, the Musketeers secured a 7-0 victory versus Dayton. Imani Graham leads the way for Xavier in the No. 1 singles position. Graham is 12-5 including a 3-0 BIG EAST record this season. Head Coach Doug Matthews took over both the men's and women's programs in 2015 before being named Director of Tennis in 2022. Under Matthews, Xavier claimed its third-straight BIG EAST Championship in 2023.
