DePaul Downs St. John’s 4-0, Storms Into BIG EAST Title Match

Second-seeded Blue Demons meet No. 1 Xavier on Monday
COLUMBIA, S.C. — No. 2 seed DePaul women's tennis will make its return to the BIG EAST Championship match after defeating sixth-seeded St. John's 4-0 on Sunday at the South Carolina Indoor Tennis Center.
The Blue Demons improved to 17-7 on the season and will appear in the conference title match for the 11th time in program history and ninth occasion in the past 10 iterations of the postseason event. With a win on Monday, DePaul will claim its fifth BIG EAST title, first since 2019, and earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
DePaul is set to face top-seeded Xavier on Monday, April 22 with a title up for grabs. First serve from Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center is set for 12 p.m. CT with streaming carried on the BIG EAST Digital Network via FloSports.
In doubles action, the Blue Demons won by default on court three before clinching at No.1 as Greta Carbone and Hannah Smith combined for their 12th win of the dual season, 6-4. Carbone fired an ace on second service to claim the early 1-0 advantage for DePaul.
To begin singles play, Eva Goncharov won at No. 6 by default to move to 8-3 on the season as the Blue Demons widened their lead to 2-0.
Carbone claimed a decisive 6-1, 6-4 victory on court three over the Red Storm's Nicole Sartz-Lunde. The senior from Milan, Italy has won three-consecutive matches and boasts an 11-4 record this spring.
At No. 2, Eleanor Nobbs grinded out a 6-4 first set before closing the door on St. John's with a dominant 6-1 second frame to clinch the match.
