Blue Demons take on Fighting Illini in first road match

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – DePaul women's soccer hits the road for the first time this season on Sunday, Aug. 18, when it takes on Illinois. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. CT at Demirjian Park in Champaign, Ill., and the match can be streamed on B1G+, with live stats available on StatBroadcast.

DePaul (0-0-1) is seeking its first victory of the season after it drew to Northern Illinois on Thursday evening. As the Blue Demons aim to build early-season momentum, this match marks the second of three consecutive in-state opponents for the team.

Illinois (1-0-0) enters the match fresh off a 6-0 victory against Wright State on Thursday, Aug. 15. Six different players scored goals, and fourteen Illini registered points.

Four Blue Demons, including Olivia Beam, Elena Milam, Schuyler Riese, and Kristen Schwartz, each played 90 minutes against NIU.
In their season opener, GK Milam and the Blue Demons secured a shutout while allowing just seven shots on goal.
Freshmen Fabienne Doerig, Katelyn Jamie, and Mia Veldman each made their collegiate debuts on Thursday.
Junior transfer Briley Hill made her debut for the Blue Demons, recording one shot attempt in the match against NIU.

Illinois Notes

Head coach Janet Rayfield enters her 23rd season at the helm and is Illinois' winningest head coach in program history.
The Illini posted a 6-8-3 record in 2023, with notable victories over No. 17 Xavier on Aug. 24 and No. 19 Michigan on Sept. 24.
Illinois is slated to face six opponents that began the season ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Top-25: Nebraska (6), UCLA (11), Georgia (14), Wisconsin (19), USC (23), and Iowa (25).
The Illini return 16 letterwinners, with 67% of last season's goals coming from returning players.
Kennedy Berschel, Ella Karolak, and Mya Archibald were named to the Big Ten Women's Soccer Preseason Players to Watch List.

Series History

DePaul and Illinois are tied in the all-time series at one game apiece.
In their last meeting, the Blue Demons defeated the Fighting Illini 3-1 on Aug. 23, 2018, at Wish Field.
The teams have only squared off just twice in the all-time series.
