Blue Demons tie match in the 86th minute
CHICAGO – DePaul women's soccer battled to a 1-1 draw with Western Michigan (WMU), Sunday afternoon at Wish Field. Junior forward Freya Jupp netted her third finish on the season in the 85th minute to equalize the match, rounding out the Blue Demons' 2024 non-Conference slate.
"I'm really proud of the team for executing our game plan and capitalizing on a great opportunity to secure the tie," said head coach Michele O'Brien. "Throughout the game, it was a very even match. The first half, in particular, was tightly contested. Going down on a penalty kick was unfortunate, but at halftime, the focus was on instilling belief in our team. We knew we were doing what we needed to do to win the game. The second half was about maintaining that belief, continuing to create opportunities, and trying to get behind their defense. Most importantly, it was about believing that we would score. The equalizer was crucial as we head into our conference schedule and face some tough BIG EAST opponents."
For the third time in four matches, DePaul (2-4-2) outshot its opponent, this time against WMU, 11 to 9. Three Blue Demons attempted two shots each between Jupp, Briley Hill, and Lea Eisenring. Eisenring picked up her second assist on the season and Jupp her third goal, both team highs.
Western Michigan (3-1-3) drew for the third time this seasonin seven matches, picking up just one victory in its last four matches. Graduate student Jen Blitchok led the Broncos with three shots on goal and five fouls, unable to find the back of the net. Midfielder Drew Martin picked up her first goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 40th minute.
In DePaul's most even matchup of the season, nearly every statistical category mirrors WMU, making for an even draw in Lincoln Park.
How it Happened

Blitchok and the Broncos responded in the 15th minute with a shot deep in the box, but Milam extended her arms high to block the attempt, maintaining the deadlock.
Two corner kicks by the Blue Demons in the 12th and 25th minutes were cleared by the Broncos, resulting in two missed offensive opportunities.
Freya Jupp attempted her first shot of the game in the 26th minute, but Lauren Baofo was there to make the stop, keeping the match scoreless.
In the 35th minute, the Blue Demons nearly capitalized on a through ball, but a cross into the box was cleared by the Broncos, resetting possession.

The Blue Demons opened the second half with determination, as Shayna Da Silva attempted an early shot in the 45th minute, but it was saved by Baofo.
A free-kick opportunity in the 57th minute saw Lea Eisenring send a shot wide left of the goal. In the 72nd minute, Mackenzie Lee attempted her first shot, but it was blocked by a defender and cleared to midfield, marking DePaul's ninth shot of the game.
Western Michigan's Jen Blitchok received a yellow card in the 78th minute, the first and only booking of the match for the Broncos.
In the final moments of the bout, Jupp sent home an equalizer off a brilliant pass from Lea Eisenring. Jupp's third goal of the season rounded out DePaul's non-conference slate with a 1-1 draw against WMU.
