Krasowski leads defense with 21 digs
CHICAGO – DePaul volleyball defeated Milwaukee 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-21) Thursday evening, earning their third sweep of the season. The Blue Demons improve to 7-3 on the year, while the Panthers fall to 5-6.
Outside hitter Jill Pressly propelled the Blue Demon offense, posting 14 kills, nine digs, and a service ace. Graduate student Audrey Klemp poured in eight kills of her own, while senior Aly Kindelberger also tallied eight kills, along with five blocks and an ace. Sophomore Meghan Scholz chipped in seven kills and two blocks.
Defensively, libero Rachel Krasowski led the team in digs, with 21.
Freshman Amanda Saeger logged 20 assists and two aces, while fellow setter Ashley Cudiamat registered 15 assists on the night.
Milwaukee was led by junior Kara Erdmann, with 12 digs. Senior Madi Malone and junior Rachel Scott each added seven kills.
"Nice bounce back for us," said head coach Marie Zidek.
"The team did a great job of getting back to what makes us great as we reach for more. Our defense and serve reception gave our setters the ability to drive the offense and our serve took them out of rotation. We were able to get everyone involved offensively as well."
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET ONE: The Blue Demons jumped out to a 3-0 lead, after an ace from freshman Abby Cahill, but Milwaukee took a brief 6-5 lead after two consecutive kills. From then on, DePaul pulled away, with seven different players recording kills. A kill and solo block from Kindelberger concluded the set, a 25-19 victory for the Blue Demons.
SET TWO: The second set remained close early, with the two sides trading points, but a kill from Scholz jump-started a 4-0 run for the Blue Demons. DePaul never relinquished the lead, with Pressly notching three more kills en route to a 25-18 set win for DePaul.
SET THREE: Two quick kills from Pressly put DePaul ahead, but three errors from the Blue Demons kept the Panthers within striking distance. The sides swapped kills again, tied as late as 20-20, but a 5-0 Blue Demon run sealed the set, 25-21 in favor of DePaul.
