DePaul Returns to Chicago to Host Providence Sunday

CHICAGO – DePaul women's basketball returns home for the first time in two weeks when Providence visits Wintrust Arena on Sunday, Jan. 12. Tipoff in the South Loop is set for 2 p.m. CT.

Demon Doings
DePaul enters the matinee matchup on a two-game win streak after close wins over Xavier and St. John's on the road. In Tuesday's win over the Red Storm, the Blue Demons used a 14-2 fourth-quarter run to erase a seven point deficit and move to 8-9 overall and 3-1 in BIG EAST play.

Sparking the comeback victory were Taylor Johnson-Matthews alongside Jorie Allen. Johnson-Matthews finished in double-figures for the ninth-straight game with 23 points on five-for-10 shooting from three. The junior guard is the league's leading scorer in BIG EAST games with 22.0 points per contest.

Allen remained consistent as can be, shooting 66-percent from the field and finishing with 19 points. She extended her double-figure scoring to 17-straight games, the fifth-longest streak in program history. The graduate forward's average across all games is 18.8 points which is third in the league. Her ability to get to the free throw line and knocking them down has been crucial as well. Allen is seventh in Division I in free throw attempts with 117 as well as seventh in free throws made with 97.

Redshirt-junior Meg Newman has come on strong in conference play with averages of 12.0 points, 8.8 rebounds while shooting 54-percent from the field. She has three double-digit rebounding efforts this season.

DePaul's 13.1 offensive rebounds per game is tops in the BIG EAST while total rebounds (37.18) is second. The Blue Demons are 6-1 when outrebounding their opponent.

Providence Notes
The Friars are 8-10 on the season and 1-4 in conference action after back-to-back losses to Creighton and Butler.

Providence returns 11 letterwinners from a season ago including six that saw meaningful minutes. Graduate guard Grace Efosa leads the veterans quad with a team-best 14.6 points per game and 1.8 assists in 18 starts this season. In the front court, Olivia Olsen has added 8.2 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest. Olsen's rebounding average is third in the conference.

PC's rim protection ranks among the best in the BIG EAST with an average of 4.4 blocks each outing.
