Scarlet and Blue Close Out Day Two with Three Consecutive Singles Victories

Goncharov, Gibson, and Sechi each take home wins in singles play
MIAMI – While day one started quickly for the Blue Demons at the FIU Invitational, the second day of competition proved DePaul's ability to finish strong.
Doubles play began at 8:00 a.m. CT from the PayCargo Tennis Center with junior Hannah Smith and senior Eva Goncharov taking down Canete/Roso (MIZ), 6-1. The pair picked up their second doubles victory in as many matches and look to continue the trend against Baidaulet/Draskovic (FIU) on Sunday, January 12.
In singles competition, Nobbs turned in a resilient performance. The 4th-year Blue Demon dropped the first set, 3-6, before bouncing back to win the second set, 7-5. Nobbs closed out the final tiebreaker set, 6-4, to claim the match versus Gian Octa (MIZ). The Bath, England native leads the team with eight singles wins since the start of action in the fall.
Sophomore Sasha Stula dropped a straight-set contest, but looks to rebound to match Nobbs in singles victories when she battles the Cougars' Iva Sepa on Sunday.
Goncharov, freshman Isabella Gibson, and sophomore Roberta Sechi avenged losses on day one, coming out triumphant on Saturday. Goncharov defeated Roso (MIZ), 6-4, 7-5 for the second time after beating the Croatian in doubles earlier in the morning. Both Gibson and Sechi won their respective matches by the same 6-4, 7-5 score.
Gibson will face Octa (MIZ) on day three while Sechi squares off against Roso (MIZ) to wrap up the FIU Invitational.
