Blue Demons Drop Road Tilt at Villanova

Jorie Allen records ninth 20-point game of the season in the setback
VILLANOVA, Pa. – DePaul women's basketball dropped a 66-55 decision on the road to Villanova on Wednesday afternoon inside Finneran Pavilion. The Blue Demons clawed back from down 12 in the third quarter to take the lead but couldn't withstand a 14-2 run from the Wildcats to begin the fourth.
Graduate forward Jorie Allen netted a game-high 20 points, her ninth game of 20+ points this season, to go with five rebounds. Allen extended her double-figure scoring streak to 19 games which ranks sixth in program history.
Shakara McCline posted a season-high 14 points, 12 of which came in the second quarter, in addition to collecting a career-high seven rebounds.
Junior guard Kate Clarke made her season debut for the Blue Demons, totaling seven points in 17 minutes of action.
DePaul (9-10, 4-2 BIG EAST) was dominant on the offensive glass, grabbing 15 boards to Villanova's three while turning in 10 second-chance points.
Villanova (9-9, 3-3 BIG EAST) turned 16 Blue Demon turnovers into 19 points. The Wildcats were led by Jasmine Bascoe and Maddie Webber who totaled 18 points apiece.
How It Happened
Meg Newman dropped in the game's first basket before Villanova scored the next six points to claim an early advantage. Taylor Johnson-Matthews converted on an and-one in the final minute to of the first quarter to bring DePaul within a pair of possessions. The Wildcats went 8-for-11 from the free throw line in the opening period and owned a 19-13 lead after one.
McCline scored the first seven points of the second quarter for DePaul, while Villanova's Webber matched her with seven of her own through the first six minutes. The Blue Demons were held without a field goal for a three-and-a-half-minute stretch as the Wildcats expanded their advantage to 12, its largest of the game, before McCline closed the half on a personal 5-0 run. Villanova held a 34-27 lead after 20 minutes.
DePaul held the Wildcats without a point for nearly four minutes while scoring nine points of its own to claw back within two five minutes into the third. A pair of free throws from Allen gave the Blue Demons their first lead since 2-0 in the first quarter. Villanova responded with a 7-0 spurt of their own to reclaim a five-point lead heading into the final 10 minutes in front 48-43.
Villanova opened the fourth quarter on a 14-2 run behind a quartet of three-point field goals. The Blue Demons cut into the deficit with three-consecutive field goals, but it wasn't enough as the Wildcats claimed the victory for the seventh-straight time in the series.
