Demon Doings
DePaul will look to return to the win column and continue its strong start to 2025 after dropping its first game of the calendar year on Wednesday at Villanova. The Blue Demons are 9-10 on the season and 4-2 against BIG EAST competition.
Jorie Allen has been a consistent force inside for the Blue Demons, averaging a team-best 18.9 points per game which ranks third among all league players. Allen has scored 10 or more points in all 19 games this season, a streak which ranks sixth in program history. The graduate forward has put up nine 20-point games this season which is tied with UConn's Paige Bueckers for the conference lead. She has attempted 142 free throws this season and made 118 of those attempts (.830), both figures are good for fourth in Division I.
Junior transfer Taylor Johnson-Matthews has been a welcomed addition for DePaul, scoring 14.7 points across all games and 19.1 through six conference contests. Johnson-Matthews has recorded 10 or more points in 15 of 19 games this season.
Sophomore guard Shakara McCline provided a spark for the Blue Demons against the Wildcats, pouring in a season-high 14 points on 50-percent shooting from the field while grabbing a career-best seven rebounds. The East St. Louis, Ill. native has started the last four games for DePaul.
The Blue Demons are second in the BIG EAST in rebounds with 37.2 per game including a league-high 13.2 on the offensive end. Redshirt-junior Meg Newman paces the Blue Demons on the glass with 7.95 boards per game which is top-three in the conference. Newman has three games this season with 10 or more rebounds.
Creighton Notes
The Bluejays return to the court for the first time in a week and own a 14-3 overall record including a 6-0 mark in conference play.
Creighton, receiving votes in both national polls, has won its last five games after falling to No. 1 UCLA to close out non-conference action. The Jays are powered by a veteran core of returners including Morgan Maly, Lauren Jensen and Molly Mogensen. The trio accounts for 58-percent of the teams scoring this season with Maly and Jensen averaging 18.1 and 17.4 points per game, respectively.
As a team, Creighton ranks top-20 in the nation in three-pointers per game (9.2) and three-point percentage (.370). CU shares and takes care of the ball well, ranking seventh in Division I in assist/turnover ratio at 1.55.
Jim Flanery is in his 23rd season at the helm of his alma mater and has led the Bluejays to three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances.
