Blue Demons Travel to Akron Saturday

CHICAGO – DePaul men's soccer will head east on I-90 to take on BIG EAST contender Akron Saturday, Oct. 11. First touch from FirstEnergy Stadium is set for 5 p.m. CT with the match covered on ESPN+.

Demon Doings
DePaul (2-4-6, 0-2-1 BIG EAST) steps back into league play after a 2-2 draw with Bradley in the non-conference finale on Tuesday evening. A pair of Blue Demons netted their first tallies in a DePaul uniform in the result against the Braves as redshirt-sophomore Joon Han and junior Jordan Clagette each found the back of the net. Â Han set the tone early and finished the outing with a career-best four shots as the Blue Demons outmatched their opponent in shots for the 11th time in 12 matches this season.

The Blue Demons have been persistent all season long in finding opportunities in the attacking third, ranking in the top-15 nationally in shots (16.58 – 12th) and corner kicks (7.00 – 7th) per match. Junior midfielder Noeh Hernandez leads the league and ranks 12th in Division I with an average of 3.50 shots per contest. Hernandez leads active Blue Demons with three goals on the season while firing 42 shots on the campaign including 14 on goal.

Christian Baumgartner and Luca Iaccino have each recorded a pair of goals this season while Baumgartner has an assist to his credit. The redshirt-junior ranks second on the squad with 20 shots in 2025.

All three rostered goakeepers have seen action between the pipes this season with graduate student Santiago Davila making eight appearances and a team-best 25 saves for the Blue Demons. Sophomore Hayden Vostal made his collegiate debut in DePaul's match versus Bradley Tuesday, making a pair of saves.

After a 0-0 draw at 13th-ranked Cornell on Tuesday, the Zips are 7-3-2 on the season including a 1-2 mark in BIG EAST action. Akron, the preseason favorite in the Midwest Division, began the season 5-0-1 powered by a balanced attack in which four different players have three or more goals on the season. Jack Roman and Stefan Dobrijevic are tied for the team-lead in points with 11 apiece. The Zips, led by Jared Embik in his 13th season at the helm, rank third nationally in corner kicks per game at 7.58 while holding opponents to .50 goals per game which is good for ninth in Division I.

In the brief history between the two sides, Akron owns a 3-0-0 edge over the Blue Demons including a pair of victories last season. In the most recent meeting between the two programs, the Zips claimed a 3-1 victory in the 2025 BIG EAST Quarterfinals Nov. 9, 2024 at FirstEnergy Stadium. Senior forward Logan Finnegan was responsible for DePaul's goal in the setback.
