Zips Score Late As DePaul Falls to Akron 3-2

Han, Hickiewicz net goals for DePaul
AKRON, Ohio – A late goal from Akron with just 90 seconds remaining delivered a 3-2 defeat to DePaul in a tightly contested BIG EAST showdown at FirstEnergy Stadium Saturday evening.
Despite an early goal from Joon Han and a strike from Daniel Hickiewicz to level things in the 66th minute, the Blue Demons couldn't stave off the persistent press of the Zips falling to 2-5-6 on the season and 0-3-1 in BIG EAST. Akron, the preseason favorite in Midwest Division, improved to 8-3-2 overall and 2-2 in BIG EAST action.
Han scored for the second-straight match for his second tally of the 2025 campaign while Hickiewicz netted the first goal of his career. Sophomore forward Jayden Waski assisted on both Blue Demon goals while Sam Tinoco also notched an assist.
Akron outshot DePaul 19–11, marking only the second time this season that the Blue Demons have been outshot by an opponent.

How It Happened
Akron's first chance of the match in the center of the six-yard box was swallowed up by Davila as the target was right into the arms of the DePaul goalkeeper.
The Blue Demons had a pair of looks off free kicks in the early going, but couldn't find a shot on frame.
Despite consistent pressure from the Zips from the corner flags including four-straight opportunities, Davila kept the Blue Demons in it with five saves in the first 16 minutes.
After a clearance in the 17th minute from an Akron corner, Laird saved the ball on the far side of the pitch for Tinoco to center it, Waski to drop it off and Han to bury it in the bottom left corner of the net to give the Blue Demons an early advantage.
It wasn't long until Akron responded with a goal of their own as Stefan Dobrijevic beat DePaul's back line and chipped the ball over the head of Davila to level things in the 24th minute.
74 seconds later the Zips claimed a 2-1 edge on a give and go for Jack Roman to finish the chance on the doorstep.
Akron held a 2-1 lead after 45 minutes of action, owning a 12-5 edge in first-half shots.
Th Blue Demons equalized in the 66th minute after Christian Baumgartner forced a turnover in the midfield and turned it into a chance for Hickiewicz to drive into the box past two Zips defenders and hit it home far post to even the score 2-2.
Akron responded mere minutes later on a counterattack that caused chaos in the box for Freddy Kossehasse to hammer it home on the rebound to claim a 3-2 lead and the victory.
