DePaul Volleyball Sweeps St. John’s on the Road
10/10/2025 8:14:00 PM | WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
Isabela Tavares-Salomon adds eight kills in debut
JAMAICA, N.Y- DePaul volleyball (10-6, 3-2 BIG EAST) defeated St. John's 3-0 (29-27, 25-23, 25-15) on Friday evening inside Carnesecca Arena, earning its first road victory of BIG EAST play. St. John's drops to 5-13, including 1-4 in league matches.
Kendall Timme shone for the Blue Demons in all facets, adding a match-best 14 kills on .481 hitting, along with six digs, five blocks and four service aces. She was followed by middle blocker Katelynn Oxley, who had another efficient match with eight kills at a .538 clip, and Isabela Tavares-Salomon, who contributed eight kills and a pair of blocks in her debut for the Blue Demons.
Setter Amanda Saeger facilitated the DePaul offense with 37 assists, while Eva Hurrle paced the defense with 13 digs.
"Our focus tonight was on improving the quality of our counterattack in both block and defense, knowing that St. John's thrives on their serve and block," said head coach Marie Zidek.
"We emphasized playing point by point and keeping our adjustments simple, and we accomplished both of those goals. St. John's is one of the toughest places to win on the road, and being able to not only beat them, but do so in straight sets is something that doesn't happen often. Now, we have an opportunity ahead of us to build on this momentum and compete strongly against Seton Hall."
The Red Storm were led by Martina Ghezzi, who matched Timme with 14 kills, and also registered nine digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET ONE
St. John's took an early 3-1 lead, but it didn't take long for DePaul to heat up, propelled by a pair of blocks from Jade Dudley-Epps and Timme. A 4-0 scoring run gave the Red Storm a 12-8 edge, led by three kills from Chloe Bell. Tavares-Salomon came alive into the media timeout, adding her first trio of kills as a Blue Demon, and following the timeout it was kills from Oxley, Timme and Morgan Stewart that knotted the frame at 17 points. From there, the teams swapped points, even as late as 27, but a pair of service aces from Hurrle earned DePaul the opening set, 29-27.
SET TWO
The second set began as close as the first ended, until the Red Storm amassed a 5-0 scoring run to take a 9-5 lead, bolstered by two kills and a block from Ghezzi. DePaul proceeded to go on a 5-0 run of its own, including kills from Dudley-Epps and Timme, tying the set at 13 points. The sides battled late, until the Blue Demons added another 5-0 run, driven by strong service from Saeger, that won them the second set, 25-23.
SET THREE
Three service aces from Timme jump started a six-point Blue Demon run and they did not look back, with Stewart, Timme and Oxley each adding two more kills en route to a 25-15 victory in the final set.
