Blue Demons Win Final Exhibition At Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, IND. – DePaul men's basketball wrapped up its exhibition slate Friday evening with a 69-62 road victory over Notre Dame. The Blue Demons displayed balanced scoring with nine players contributing at least two points and three finishing in double figures in NJ Benson, Layden Blocker and CJ Gunn.
Continuing its emphasis on team basketball, DePaul tallied 17 assists on 25 made field goals, with eight different players recording an assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
DePaul set the tone early with a lockdown defensive effort, holding Notre Dame to 1-of-8 shooting through the opening four minutes. The Blue Demons found their rhythm from deep, connecting on five straight three-pointers to spark a 14-0 run and build a 21-8 lead midway through the first half. Notre Dame came back behind efficient free throw shooting to pull within four at the break.
The Irish opened the second half with a 7-0 run to take their first lead since the opening basket. After trading baskets, DePaul regained momentum by hitting five of six shots for a 49-44 lead. The Irish stayed within striking distance, but Gunn's late steal and fastbreak finish extended the lead to 65-60. Following a Notre Dame technical foul, Gunn sank two free throws, and the Blue Demons held the Irish without a field goal over the final three minutes to close out the win.
UP NEXT
DePaul returns to practice as the Blue Demons prepare for the season opener, Nov. 3, against Chicago State. The game is set for a 7 p.m. tip from Wintrust Arena and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
