DePaul Falls to No. 12 Creighton

Isabela Tavares Salomon adds match-best 12 kills
OMAHA, Neb. – DePaul volleyball fell to No. 12 Creighton 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-15) Friday afternoon, falling to 12-11 overall and 5-7 in BIG EAST play. The Bluejays improve to 18-5 on the season, including 11-0 in league matches.
Freshman Isabela Tavares Salomon led the Blue Demon attack, adding a match-best 12 kills along Ava Martin of Creighton. DePaul out-blocked the Bluejays on the day, led by four stops from Katelynn Oxley and three each from Jade Dudley-Epps and Tavares Salomon.
Abby Cahill paced DePaul on defense with 11 digs, while Amanda Saeger facilitated the Blue Demon offense with 27 assists.
"We played at a high end needed to be in the match at the highest end," said head coach Marie Zidek.
"A bright future ahead of this group once they learn how to administrate the entire parts of their game together. Proud of our effort against a strong Creighton team."
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET ONE
DePaul kept pace with the Bluejays early, led by service aces from Timme and Stewart. Even at seven, Creighton notched a 4-0 scoring run to take a narrow edge, propelled by kills from Kiara Reinhardt and Martin. The Bluejays retained their advantage the rest of the way, aided by three DePaul errors and three kills from Abbey Hayes. One final kill from Reinhardt won Creighton the opening set, 25-16.
SET TWO
Creighton came out swinging to take a 9-3 lead, behind two kills from Annalea Maeder and a pair of blocks. Tavares Salomon added five kills for the Blue Demons, but the Bluejays continued to build on their advantage, leading by as many as ten points. Despite a late 4-0 scoring run from DePaul that included two blocks, the Bluejays secured the set, 25-18, with a kill from Eloise Brandewie.
SET THREE
The sides traded kills for the first ten points, before Creighton went on a 4-0 run that included two DePaul errors and two kills from Martin. Timme added another trio of kills, but Martin answered with four of her own. Ashlyn Paymal checked in to add two late kills, concluding the set win for the Bluejays, 25-15.
UP NEXT
DePaul returns to Chicago for its final home weekend, Nov. 7-8. The Blue Demons will host Seton Hall on Friday, November 7 at 7 p.m. before welcoming St. John's at 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 8. Saturday serves as DePaul's Senior Day, where the program will celebrate its graduating seniors, Grace Brooker, Katelynn Oxley and Logan Winn.
