DePaul Drops Three-Set Decision at Marquette

Jade Dudley-Epps adds match-best five blocks in defeat
Milwaukee, Wis. – DePaul volleyball fell to Marquette 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-15) Sunday afternoon inside the Al McGuire Center, dropping to 9-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play. The Golden Eagles improve to 9-5, including 3-1 in BIG EAST matches.
Kendall Timme led DePaul's offense for the sixth consecutive match, adding 12 kills and three service aces. She was followed closely by Jade Dudley-Epps, who added eight kills at a .235 clip. Dudley-Epps also contributed three service aces of her own and a match-best five blocks.
Amanda Saeger organized the Blue Demons with 21 assists, while Eva Hurrle paced the defense with 11 digs.
"Today was a big lesson for our team in understanding what the BIG EAST requires once the match begins," said head coach Marie Zidek.
"We came out flat and looked for moments to rest rather than seizing opportunities. It's an important reminder that growth is not linear. We have all the pieces, but today we didn't put them together as a team. This is a lesson we can absorb now and use to serve us well moving forward."
The Golden Eagles were topped by 12 kills from Natalie Ring.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET ONE
Five Dudley-Epps kills pushed the Blue Demons through the first half of the set, and they took a three-point lead after a Dudley-Epps block and two kills from Stewart. The Golden Eagles responded with kills from setter Isabela Haggard and Ring. Even at 19, a pair of kills from Ring and three DePaul errors narrowly earned the Golden Eagles the opening frame, 25-23.
SET TWO
Marquette took the upper hand after two quick kills from Elena Radeff, but Dudley-Epps rattled off three service aces to regain the lead for DePaul. The sides swapped kills, until the Golden Eagles developed a slim three-point lead, propelled by strong service from Bray. The Blue Demons battled back, with Stewart and Timme adding points to knot the set at 20 points. A late kill from Hattie Bray and two DePaul errors gave Marquette the second set, 25-22.
SET THREE
Two service aces from Bray and two kills from Keira Schmidt propelled Marquette to a 10-4 lead early. Timme posted three kills and a pair of aces to pull the Blue Demons within four points, but it would not be enough, and Marquette took the final set, 25-15.
