DePaul ties Providence 2-2 on senior day
CHICAGO – DePaul women's soccer closed its 2025 campaign with a 2-2 draw against Providence on Saturday afternoon at Wish Field. The Blue Demons battled through a competitive Senior Day matchup, with goals from Danielle Fjeldsted and Sienna Gonzales highlighting a strong performance that denied Providence a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament.
DePaul (4-12-2, 1-7-2 BIG EAST) opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Fjeldsted finished off a sequence assisted by Gonzales and Tessa Fagerson. Providence (6-6-4, 3-4-3 BIG EAST) responded in the 59th minute before DePaul regained the lead in the 72nd on Gonzales' third goal of the season, set up by Shayna da Silva. The Friars tied it again in the 79th minute off a header from Stephanie Schoeley to bring the match even.
"I'm extremely proud and honored to have coached this class of graduating student-athletes today," said head coach Michele O'Brien. "There's no better group to coach, and I'm proud of all that we accomplished together this season."
How it Happened
The match turned early as Providence's Isabella Kloock-Jensen was issued a red card in the fifth minute, leaving the Friars a player down for nearly the entire match.
DePaul struck first in the 23rd minute when Danielle Fjeldsted scored her third goal of the season on a play set up by Sienna Gonzales and Tessa Fagerson.
After halftime, Stephanie Schoeley netted an equalizer in the 59th minute with a right-footed strike that slipped through the defense.
Sienna Gonzales restored DePaul's lead in the 72nd minute, finishing into the top-left corner off a setup from Shayna da Silva.
Providence leveled the match again in the 79th minute when Schoeley headed in a corner kick from Emma Gregorski for her second goal of the day.
Despite a late push from both sides, neither team could find a winner as the Blue Demons closed their 2025 campaign with a home draw.
