Fast Start Not Enough for DePaul at Creighton

Novik scores a team-high 11 points
OMAHA, Neb. – Despite leading by as many as 13 in the second quarter, DePaul women's basketball (3-11, 0-3 BIG EAST) couldn't sustain its offensive efficiency, falling 70–50 to Creighton Saturday afternoon at D.J. Sokol Arena. The Blue Demons shot 46-percent from the field in the opening quarter before converting on just 20-percent of attempts in the ensuing three periods.
How It Happened
Novik scored seven of DePaul's first nine points as the Blue Demons jumped out to a 9–2 lead, forcing a Creighton timeout with 5:35 remaining in the first quarter. The Bluejays trimmed the deficit to five before being held scoreless over the final three minutes of the frame. DePaul took a 20–10 lead into the second quarter, marking its highest-scoring quarter in BIG EAST play this season.
The Blue Demons were held scoreless for nearly three minutes in the second quarter, allowing Creighton to go on a 15–0 run and take a 27–25 lead. McCline's second three-pointer of the game snapped the drought and gave DePaul a 28–27 edge at the half.
DePaul shot just 21 percent (3-for-14) from the field in the third quarter as the Bluejays carried a 48–39 advantage into the final 10 minutes.
Creighton used a 13–0 run to extend its lead to 20 before the Blue Demons responded with six unanswered points to cut the deficit to 14 midway through the fourth quarter. The Bluejays then closed out the victory by converting four of their final five field-goal attempts.

Junior guard Kate Novik finished in double figures for the ninth time in 13 games, posting a team-high 11 points to go with nine rebounds and three assists. Shakara McCline added nine points, while Natiah Nelson and Alayna West chipped in eight apiece. West also recorded a career-high six steals, the most by a Blue Demon this season.
