Blue Demons best George Washington to cap off a 2-0 weekend

WASHINGTON D.C. – DePaul beat George Washington 4-3 in an East Coast showdown on Saturday afternoon at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center.

The match marked the first time the two programs met on the court. The Revolutionaries outscored opponents 11-0 in their first two contests of the season before running into the Blue Demon buzz saw.

Doubles competition began at 11:45 a.m. CT. The tandem of freshman Eleanor Cochran and sophomore Sasha Stula continued their winning ways on court three with a 6-2 advantage, giving DePaul an early edge. The pair is now 4-1 in dual play. No. 2 doubles, senior Eleanor Nobbs and sophomore Roberta Sechi notched a narrow, 7-5 victory to clinch the doubles point for the Blue Demons.

In singles, junior Hannah Smith registered the first win on court one from a Blue Demon this season. Over the first four matches before entering play, Smith went unfinished in two matchups. Stula looked dominant once again, defeating Madison Lee (GW), 6-3, 6-1 on court three. The Revolutionaries gained points on courts four, five and six, but Nobbs clinched the Scarlet and Blue triumph in a thrilling tiebreaker set. After falling behind in set one, 2-6, Nobbs rebounded in the second set, 6-1. The Bath, England native used the momentum to propel her performance, besting Vaida Matuseviciute (GW), 7-5.
