Women’s Basketball Visits Marquette on Saturday

Blue Demons and Golden Eagles meet for 88th time
CHICAGO – DePaul women's basketball will make the short trip up I-94 to face off against longtime foe Marquette on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff from the Al McGuire Center is set for 2 p.m.

With two weeks of the regular season remaining, DePaul looks to string together a stretch of success after dropping four of its last five games. The Blue Demons are 12-15 on the season and 7-7 in BIG EAST games coming off a 62-56 setback against Villanova on Wednesday. Graduate forward Jorie Allen continued her dominant run on Wednesday with a team-best 23 points on 50-percent shooting in addition to five rebounds and three assists. Allen leads the league in scoring with 19.6 points per game while her 27-game streak of double-figure scoring is atop the BIG EAST.
Junior guard Kate Clarke provided a lift off the bench with 12 points in her sixth appearance of the season.
Collectively, the Blue Demons grabbed 10 or more offensive rebounds for the 22nd game this season. DePaul's average of 13.4 offensive rebounds per game leads the BIG EAST.
Marquette is 16-8 this season and 8-5 in conference contests after taking down Seton Hall on the road 68-61 Wednesday evening. Sophomore forward Skylar Forbes has been a catalyst for success this season, finishing in double figures on 20 occasions and boasting a scoring average of 15.4 points per game. As a team, the Golden Eagles are active defensively, leading the league in rebounds per game (38.3) and blocks per game (4.4).
Saturday's matchup will be the 88th meeting between the two programs in a series that dates back to 1978. The Blue Demons own a 49-38 edge, but the Golden Eagles have won the last six meetings.
The last time the two teams collided, Marquette took home a 78-59 victory on Dec. 29 at Wintrust Arena. The Golden Eagles shot 50-percent from the floor and had four finish in double figures. DePaul's Jorie Allen (24 points), Taylor Johnson-Matthews (19 points) and Meg Newman (10 points) combined for 53 of the team's 59 points.
