Blue Demons Drop 4-1 Decision at Purdue Friday

West Lafayette, Ind. – Despite claiming an early 1-0 advantage after winning the doubles point, DePaul women's tennis couldn't quite keep pace with Purdue on Friday afternoon, falling 4-1 at the Schwartz Tennis Facility.

The Blue Demons, facing their third Big Ten opponent in the first month of the season, fell to 4-4 in dual play while the Boilermakers moved to 5-1.

DePaul won the doubles point for the sixth time in eight matches behind strong performances up and down the lineup. The tandem of Hannah Smith and Eva Goncharov opened the match with energy, taking down the 69th-ranked duo in the nation in Tara Katarina Milic and Carmen Gallardo Guevara 6-3 at No. 1. On court 3, freshman Eleanor Cochran alongside sophomore Sasha Stula took care of Purdue's Wilson and Clement 6-4 to clinch the 1-0 advantage for the Blue Demons.

In singles, the Blue Demons struggled to find their footing with the Boilermakers claiming courts three, four, five and six in straight sets to win the match.

Smith claimed the first set at No. 1 against Carmen Gallarrdo Guerva who is 3-1 in singles action this season before the match went unfinished even at 6-6 in the second set.

On court two, Stula fought back from down an early deficit in the first set to force a tiebreak before gaining a 5-2 edge in the second set.

The Blue Demons will conclude the road trip with a match against Tulsa on Saturday, February 15 at 10 a.m. CT inside the Schwartz Tennis Facility.
