Blue Demon duo upends 18th-ranked doubles pair as DePaul falls 4-0

West Lafayette, Ind. – For the second time in as many days, the DePaul duo of Eva Goncharov and Hannah Smith took down a ranked opponent as the Blue Demons fell to Tulsa 4-0 at the Schwartz Tennis Facility on Saturday afternoon.

The No. 1 doubles duo dominated the 18th-ranked tandem of Maria Berlanga and Lily Hutchings, 6-3, a day after beating Purdue's pair ranked 69th nationally.

Despite the doubles victory on court one, the Golden Hurricanes claimed the doubles point with a 6-4 victory at No. 2 and a 7-6 (7-5) tiebreak at No. 3.

In singles action, the Blue Demons nabbed a trio of first set victories including sophomore Sasha Stula at No. 2, Goncharov at No. 3 and freshman Isabella Gibson in tiebreak fashion at No. 5, but it wasn't enough as Tulsa claimed decisive straight-set wins on courts one, three and six to clinch the match.
