DePaul Travels to South Orange to Square Off Against Seton Hall

Blue Demons and Pirates tipoff at 6 p.m. CT Thursday evening
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – DePaul women's basketball makes its final road trip of the regular season Thursday when it visits Seton Hall. The 35th all-time meeting between the two teams is set to tipoff at 6 p.m. CT from Walsh Gymnasium.

With one week of the regular season remaining, DePaul (12-17, 7-9 BIG EAST) looks to pick up momentum heading into postseason play. Regardless of the results in the last two contests, the Blue Demons have clinched the No. 6 seed for the 2025 BIG EAST Tournament at Mohegan Sun Arena and will play 11th-seeded Xavier on Friday, March 7 at 3 p.m. CT.

Last time out, DePaul, playing its sixth ranked opponent of the season, fell to then-No. 23 Creighton 83-74 on Sunday afternoon at Wintrust Arena. The Blue Demons shot 52-percent from the floor including a 50-percent clip from distance but couldn't keep pace with the high-octane Bluejays for a full 40 minutes. Â Connecting on 75-percent of her attempts, Taylor Johnson-Matthews matched her career-high with 26 points to lead DePaul while Jorie Allen added 22 points and seven assists. DePaul outrebounded its opponent for the 14th time this season with redshirt-junior Meg Newman grabbing a season-best 13 rebounds.

Allen and Johnson-Matthews have been the offensive answer for the Blue Demons this season averaging 19.8 and 14.8 points per game, respectively. Allen is leading the conference with 20.1 points per outing in league games and has finished with 10 or more points in all 29 of DePaul's games this season. Johnson-Matthews has seven 20-point performances to her credit and is shooting 40-percent from three-point range in conference contests.

The Blue Demons are getting to the charity stripe at a strong rate, ranking second in the BIG EAST in free throw attempts per game at 16.5 and knocking in a conference-best 12.2 per outing. Â

After a nine-point win over BIG EAST rival St. John's on Sunday, Seton Hall is 19-8 overall and 11-5 in conference play. The Pirates have secured a first-round bye for next week's league tournament and could solidify the third seed after this week's games. The Pirates have three players averaging in double figures with graduate forward Faith Masonius posting a team-best 15.6 points per game and freshman guard Jada Eads adding 14.1. As a team, Seton Hall is known for its defense and ranks among the nation's best with 11.04 steals per game this season. Their +6.48 turnover margin is 19th in Division I.

Through the first 34 games between the programs, DePaul owns a 24-10 edge in the series. Seton Hall has won five of the last six meetings including three-straight. Earlier this season, the Pirates picked up a 72-55 victory at Wintrust Arena with Masonius scoring 21 points to lead three players in double figures. Johnson-Matthews had a career-high 26 points for the Blue Demons.
