Blue Demons Lead From Start to Finish in Sunday Victory

DePaul earns its second BIG EAST win of the season
CHICAGO – DePaul men's basketball led from start to finish in a 74-57 Sunday route of Seton Hall from Wintrust Arena. The 17-point victory marked the largest for DePaul in BIG EAST play since March 6, 2019 while shooting a season-best 55.3 percent from the field.
NJ Benson led the team with his third double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. He also added three assists and two blocks. Three other Blue Demons joined in double-digit scoring with 16 points from CJ Gunn, 14 from Isaiah Rivera and 11 from Jacob Meyer. Layden Blocker was also a stat-sheet stuffer with seven points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
DePaul (11-12, 2-10 BIG EAST) jumped out to an immediate lead, holding Seton Hall scoreless for the opening six minutes of the game for a 12-0 lead. The Pirates patented defense picked up as they held DePaul without a field goal for over five minutes and put together a 7-0 stretch to cut the lead to 15-12. The Blue Demons immediately fired back with an 8-2 run that included three-pointers by Rivera and Meyer. With a three-point lead, Blocker nabbed a crucial steal and fastbreak dunk before Benson and Rivera closed out the half with scoring efforts for a nine-point halftime lead.
The Blue Demons strong showing continued as they outscored Seton Hall 13-4 to open the second half to a 51-33 lead. After a Seton Hall dunk, Meyer and Rivera responded with buckets as DePaul took its largest lead of the game, 59-37. The Pirates picked up their defensive pressure, putting together a 9-0 run before Conor Enright put a halt to it with a pair of free throws. Gunn knocked in back-to-back three-pointers keeping the momentum in DePaul's favor. One more swing from Seton Hall on another 9-0 run was ended by a fastbreak basket from Gunn.

- DePaul's 55.3 percent shooting was the highest team field goal percentage in a conference game since Feb. 27, 2022.
- The Blue Demons reached 226 three-pointers on the season which sits as the fifth-most all-time in a single-season.
- The 17-point victory was also the second largest for DePaul all-time in the series against Seton Hall and greatest since March 3, 2012.
- Rivera extended his personal stretch of consecutive games scoring to 70.
- Conor Enright eclipsed 300 career assists with six Sunday evening.
