Blue Demons Begin East Coast Road Swing at Providence

DePaul and Providence meet for second time this season
CHICAGO – DePaul women's basketball opens a two-game East Coast road trip on Thursday, Feb. 6 with a matchup against Providence inside Alumni Hall. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT with the game streamed live on FloCollege.

DePaul (11-13, 6-5 BIG EAST) looks to snap a two-game skid after a pair of setbacks against sixth-ranked UConn and Seton Hall at home last week.

Against the Pirates, junior guard Taylor Johnson-Matthews posted a career-high 26 points for her sixth 20-point outing of the season, five of which have come against BIG EAST opponents. She is averaging 14.7 points across all games this season and has increased her production in conference play to 17.2 points per game.

Jorie Allen has been a driving force for the Blue Demons this season, finishing with 10 or more points in all 24 games including 11 games of 20 or more points. Her scoring average of 19.4 points per game ranks second among all BIG EAST players and top 35 nationally. She has developed as one of the league's best passers with 4.0 assists per game which is fifth among all players and first among those in the frontcourt.

The Blue Demons lead the league in offensive rebounding this season with 13.2 per game. Redshirt-junior Meg Newman paces the pack with 7.9 rebounds to rank fourth in the BIG EAST. She has five games with 10 or more boards this season.

Providence (9-15, 2-9 BIG EAST) has lost its last four games and are coming off a 79-66 defeat at Creighton on Sunday afternoon. Graduate guard Grace Efosa has powered the Friars all season, finishing in double figures in 17 games this season and averaging a team-best 13.5 points per game. Forward Olivia Olsen ranks third among all league players in rebounding with 8.04 rebounds per outing. Through 11 conference games, the Friars are limiting opponents to 36-percent shooting from the field which is second in the BIG EAST.

The Blue Demons are 31-5 all-time against the Friars and have won 25 of the last 26 meetings. In games played in the Ocean State, DePaul is 12-3 after falling 72-65 in January of 2024 at Alumni Hall.

In the first meeting between the two squads this season, DePaul claimed a 62-56 victory inside Wintrust Arena on Jan. 12. Johnson-Matthews and Allen combined for 40 of DePaul's 62 points while the Blue Demons assisted on 14 of their 16 made field goals. Marta Morales Romero scored a team-high 18 points for Providence.
