Blue Demon duo recognized for court and classroom performances
CHICAGO – DePaul's Jorie Allen and Meg Newman were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team on Tuesday afternoon, recognizing their performance on the court and in the classroom. Allen earns the distinction for the second-straight year while Newman collects the certificate for the first time in her career.
Â
Allen, the 2025 BIG EAST Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, will graduate in June with a masters degree in writing and publishing. She currently holds a perfect 4.0 GPA after graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2023 with a bachelor's degree in political science.Â
Â
On the court, Allen earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors while leading the team and conference in scoring with 20.0 points per game. The Bedford, Ind. native was also named the league's Most Improved Player after finishing in double figures in all 32 games this season. In her final campaign with the Blue Demons, she set the program record for most free throws in a season with 213 while also tying the single-game mark with 17 in a game versus Georgetown on Feb. 9.Â
Â
Newman is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Political Science on a Pre-Law track within DePaul's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and boasts a 3.80 GPA.
Â
In her first season as a Blue Demon, Newman joined Allen as the only two players to start all 32 games. The redshirt-junior led DePaul in rebounding with 8.2 boards per game which ranked fourth in the BIG EAST. Newman paced the Blue Demons on the glass in 19 games this season and reached double figures in eight games.
Â
As a program, DePaul has seen 17 student-athletes earn Academic All-District honors and seven go on to be named Academic All-Americans.
Â
The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
