Blue Demons secure doubles point but come up short
STORRS, Conn.– The Scarlet and Blue fell 4-3 in a highly contested match against Villanova at the UConn tennis courts on Saturday.
Doubles competition began with Eleanor Cochran and first-time partner, Isabella Gibson, collecting a 6-2 win on court three. The Blue Demons' top doubles team, Eva Goncharov and Hannah Smith, claimed the opening point of the match with a 6-4 victory over the Wildcats' Sophia Edwards and Miriam Gondorova.
Villanova registered wins on courts one, four and five, but the Scarlet and Blue put up a fight, forcing the Wildcats to a tie-breaking set point in all but one match. Moving up a spot, Goncharov dominated Olivia Corcoran, winning 6-1, 6-0 in slot two. Freshman Eleanor Cochran won 7-6 (4), 6-1 on court six, earning her 3rd win in dual action. Nobbs fell in the three spot, 4-6, 2-6.
