DePaul duo shines at Hayward Field
EUGENE, Oreg. – DePaul track and field's Darius Brown and Alex Bernstein took center stage Wednesday on day one of the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oreg., representing the Blue Demons in both track and field competition.
Brown earned a spot in the 110m hurdles final after a blistering 13.40q performance in the semifinals, placing third in the final heat. The top two finishers in each of the three heats received automatic qualification, while the next three fastest times advanced to the final.
On the field, Bernstein capped off his senior season by placing 18th nationally in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 65.69m. In his first NCAA Championship appearance, Bernstein stood among the nation's elite and represented DePaul with pride following a dominant spring that included a BIG EAST title and regional qualification.
Brown, a three-time All-American, enters Friday's 110m hurdles final tied as the most decorated track and field athlete in DePaul history. A finish in the race would secure a fourth All-America honor, placing him alone atop the program record books. The final is set for 7:42 p.m. CT on ESPN2, where Brown will look to make history under the lights at Hayward Field.
