Blue Demons lean on young talent for repeat slate
CHICAGO – DePaul cross country officially unveiled its 2025 fall slate Monday evening, featuring four regular-season invitationals in Illinois and Indiana before postseason action in late October.
"We have a very young team, and for the first time since COVID, we're a team without seniors," said Head Cross Country Coach Geoff Wayton. "Our schedule builds toward two very disparate cross country courses - the BIG EAST Cross Country Championships on a flat, fast course in Omaha, Neb., and the NCAA Regional Championships on a very challenging course in Stillwater, Okla. Our schedule reflects this challenge appropriately."
The 2025 regular-season lineup mirrors last fall's slate, giving the Blue Demons another run at four familiar courses across the region before postseason racing begins. By returning to the same meets, DePaul looks to build on last year's performances and carry that experience into championship competition.
DePaul opens its 2025 campaign with the Huskie Opener on Friday, Sept. 5, in DeKalb, Ill., marking the first time in program history the Blue Demons will race at the North 40 Championship Cross Country Course in consecutive seasons. On Friday, Sept. 19, DePaul returns to the National Catholic Championships in South Bend, Ind., hosted by the University of Notre Dame at the Burke Golf Course. It marks the program's first consecutive appearance at the event since 2018, when the Blue Demons regularly competed in the meet as part of a longstanding tradition.
The third stop on the schedule is a return to the familiar Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational on Friday, Oct. 3, in Chicago. Hosted by Loyola Chicago, the event is staged just north of Belmont Harbor along Lake Michigan. The Blue Demons close out the regular season at the Bradley Pink Invitational on Friday, Oct. 17, in Peoria, Ill., racing at Newman Golf Course.
Postseason competition begins Friday, Oct. 31, with the BIG EAST Championships at Mahoney State Park in Omaha, Neb. The Blue Demons then head to Stillwater, Okla., for the NCAA Division I Midwest Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 14. The NCAA Championships are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 22, at Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Mo.
