Teams to square off in 10,000-seat Convocation Center
CHICAGO – DePaul volleyball faces Northern Illinois on Friday, August 22 for its lone exhibition match of the season. The team will travel to DeKalb, Illinois for a 7 p.m. first serve inside the 10,000-seat Convocation Center. Tickets to the match are available here. The match will not be streamed.
"Thanks to NIU for hosting this match. We're looking forward to a great environment that will allow us to rehearse different lineup combinations," said head coach Marie Zidek.
"One of our largest strengths is the depth we have at every position and we're excited to showcase that with our full group of players. At the same time, this match gives us valuable opportunities to identify areas for improvement before we open our season at the Western Michigan Tournament."
DePaul adds seven freshmen and one transfer to its 2025 roster, the largest infusion of new talent in Zidek's tenure. Sophomore Jade Dudley-Epps saw meaningful minutes at San Jose State, playing in 18 matches and earning Mountain West All-Tournament recognition. Among the freshmen are Kendall Timme, who logged 688 kills her senior season at JJ Pearce High School, and Ryan Gorski, who holds the Union Catholic Regional High School all-time digs record (707).
The Blue Demons return nine letterwinners, including middle blocker Meghan Scholz, who started 28 matches in 2024, and setter Amanda Saeger, who saw action in all 35 matches and notched 14 double-doubles.
Across the net, the Huskies also welcome seven freshmen, but return their leading hitter Ava Grevengoed, who paced the team with 2.96 kills per set. Setter Ella Strausberger also returns for the Huskies, after leading the squad in assists per set (6.03) in 2024.
