Kendall Timme paces DePaul offense with 12 kills
CHICAGO – DePaul volleyball fell to UIC 3-1 (17-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-25) Friday evening inside Credit Union 1 Arena. The Blue Demons drop to 6-4, while the Flames improve to 5-4 on the year.
Kendall Timme paced the DePaul offense in her return to the starting lineup, adding 12 kills, followed closely by Katelynn Oxley, who registered ten. The match is Oxley's fifth this season with double-digit kills.
Amanda Saeger registered 30 assists, while freshman Arden Billingsley contributed nine. Ten digs from libero Eva Hurrle marks her ninth straight match in double-figures.
"Good match for us to learn from," said head coach Marie Zidek.
"UIC plays really good volleyball and we do not yet play to a level of consistency to attack teams with a complete game. This is a great match for us to learn from and return to training with more hunger to execute at a higher level."
The Flames were led by 15 kills from senior Cleo Lorenzo.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET ONE
A 4-0 run earned the Blue Demons the early edge, but the Flames regained the lead with a 4-0 run of their own. Two DePaul errors and three blocks from UIC allowed the Flames to take a five-point advantage into the first timeout. UIC built on its lead, ahead 16-8 in the middle of the set. Kills from Grace Brooker, Timme and Oxley cut the deficit in half for DePaul, but it would not be enough, and the Flames closed the set, 25-17.
SET TWO
UIC continued its momentum into the second frame, earning a three-point lead that they retained the rest of the way through. The Blue Demons came within one after three UIC attack errors, but the Flames pulled away after DePaul had three errors of its own. The sides traded points to finish the set, with a kill from Beatrice Carulli sealing the set victory for UIC, 25-22.
SET THREE
DePaul came out swinging in the third frame, building a three-point lead with kills from Brooker and Timme, and a service ace from Jade Dudley-Epps. The Flames evened things up at seven, and the teams swapped kills for the next nine points. Two late blocks and a kill from Meghan Scholz earned the Blue Demons the set win, 25-22.
SET FOUR
Three kills from Gabi Peter nabbed the Flames a narrow lead at the beginning of the set that they did not relinquish. DePaul came within three points after a pair of blocks from Dudley-Epps and Scholz, but UIC assembled another 5-0 scoring run into the first timeout. The Flames took four of the next seven points and won the final set, 25-15, behind a kill from Carulli.
