In the 17th minute, Hernandez had DePaul's first shot on frame after Nathan Laird won a ball in the corner and played it through to the edge of the box to set up a chance that was directed to the center of the cage into the arms of the Falcons goalkeeper.
From that point on, the Blue Demons turned up the pressure with Tyler Flowers, Christian Baumgarnter and Luca Iaccino all having close calls within the next six minutes of action.
DePaul held a 13-4 edge in shots through the first 45 minutes while owning a 6-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities.Â
Bowling Green (3-3-2) turned up the pace in the second half, firing five of the first seven shots of the stanza in which a pair of those resulted in goals within two minutes of each other. The Falcons led 2-0 after 57 minutes of play.
Searching for a breakthrough, the Blue Demons put a pair of shots on goal before Hernandez converted on a free kick from 22 yards out to trim the deficit to one in the 64th minute.
The Blue Demons registered the final seven shots of the match in search of an equalizer but couldn't get one to fall as time expired.
