Cross Country makes their way to DeKalb to begin fall schedule
DEKALB, Ill. – The 2025 cross country season opens Friday, Sept. 5, when DePaul competes at the Huskie Opener in DeKalb, Ill. The women's 5k is set for 5:30 p.m. CT, followed by the men's four-mile race at 6:10 p.m. CT at the North 40 Championships Cross Country Course.
Key returners for the Blue Demons include Mohamed Abdullahi, John Bush, Mason Krieg, Isabella Orozco, Tessa Roe, and Vivian Wyller. The program also welcomed 14 newcomers, highlighted by 10 freshmen, sophomore Kyle Clark, and junior transfers Trixie Johnson, Kalina Urbaniak, and Nicholas Quinn.
DePaul last raced in DeKalb in September 2024, when both the men's and women's squads claimed first place. The men finished with 22 points, 23 fewer than the next closest team, while the women tallied 29 points, 14 ahead of second place. The Blue Demons will look to replicate that dominant performance this year.
The 2025 field includes Chicago State, DePaul, Highland CC (Ill.), Illinois-Chicago, Kishwaukee College, Northern Illinois, and Western Illinois.
The North 40 Championships Course has hosted major events such as the 2011 NCAA Midwest Regional and the 2019 Mid-American Conference Championships. Its layout blends flat sections, rolling terrain, and gradual climbs, while offering multiple vantage points for spectators. A paved bike path alongside the course also supports warm-ups and cool-downs.
