DePaul Sweeps Missouri State to Finish Road Swing

Katelynn Oxley logs nine kills at .750 clip in victory
Springfield, Mo. – DePaul volleyball defeated Missouri State 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-14) Saturday evening, improving to 3-3 this season in its final match of the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational. The Bears fall to 2-4 on the year.
Kendall Timme paced the Blue Demons with 12 kills, her fifth performance with double-digit kills, while fellow freshman Morgan Stewart notched her third double-double in six matches, posting 11 kills and 12 digs.
DePaul's middle blockers contributed heavily on offense, with Katelynn Oxley registering nine kills at a .750 clip, along with three blocks. Meghan Scholz also added eight kills and Jade Dudley-Epps registered five.
"We prepared and played more tactically, and it showed against a balanced Missouri State team," said head coach Marie Zidek.
"We passed better in first ball to get our middles more involved and our block was a bit harder to expose on defense. When you couple that with smart and aggressive serving, we are able to get back in the win column. Nothing will come easy this year, and this weekend was another example of how much we still need to improve in order to reach for the next gear. I'm proud of this team's response."
SET ONE
Even at 11 points apiece, a successful DePaul challenge built momentum, allowing the Blue Demons to ride a 5-0 scoring run into the media timeout. Following the timeout, a kill from Oxley and service ace from Dudley-Epps extended DePaul's advantage to six points. The Bears mustered a late 3-0 run but it would not be enough, with the Blue Demons earning the set, 25-19.
SET TWO
After six combined errors from both teams in the first ten points, two Stewart kills gave DePaul an edge. The Blue Demons barely remained ahead through the middle of the set, until two errors from the Bears and a kill from Grace Brooker extended their lead to five. A Scholz kill secured the set for DePaul, 25-21.
SET THREE
DePaul opened the set 3-0, propelled by two quick kills from Timme, but the Bears responded with three points of their own. The Blue Demons would not be denied, with a block and three kills from Oxley contributing to an eight-point DePaul lead. Two Missouri State errors finished the final set, 25-14, in favor of the Blue Demons.
