Michelle Ojo totals team-high 17 points on 60-percent shooting from the floor
CHICAGO – Despite placing four players in double figures for its most balanced attack of the season and shooting 47 percent from the field, DePaul's second-best efficiency in BIG EAST play, the Blue Demons were unable to keep pace with the high-octane Seton Hall offense in an 86–77 setback Saturday afternoon at Wintrust Arena.
Graduate student Michelle Ojo led the Blue Demons with 17 points on 60 percent shooting, adding a career-high five assists and four rebounds. Kate Novik followed with 16 points on 77 percent shooting from the field for her 13th double-digit outing of the season.
Behind four three-point field goals, Ally Timm chipped in 15 points, her highest output against a BIG EAST opponent, while sophomore guard Devin Hagemann tallied a season-best 13 points.
DePaul (4-16, 1-8 BIG EAST) turned 14 Seton Hall turnovers into 22 points while limiting the Pirates to just five points off Blue Demon miscues. The Blue Demons also recorded 20 or more assists for the seventh time this season.
Seton Hall (13-5, 7-2 BIG EAST) went 24-for-28 from the free-throw line, marking the most made free throws by a DePaul opponent this season.
Savannah Catalon (24 points), Jordana Codio (22 points) and Zahara Bishop (21 points) combined for 67 of Seton Hall's 86 points.
Scoring slowed in the second period, as the game went nearly three minutes without a point before a pair of free throws from Ojo at the 5:54 mark. The foul shots ignited a stretch of increased scoring from both sides, with Timm and Novik accounting for DePaul's final eight points of the quarter. Seton Hall carried a 47–42 advantage into the break.
DePaul shot 54 percent from the field in the first half, while the Pirates connected at a 45 percent clip. The Blue Demons also held a 20–8 edge in points in the paint.
DePaul opened the second half by scoring on its first three field-goal attempts to reclaim a 48–47 lead. Seton Hall answered with a 10–0 run midway through the third quarter to take its largest lead of the game, 60–51, at the media timeout. Back-to-back triples from Mayo and Timm trimmed the deficit to seven heading into the final period.
A pair of free throws from Codio stretched the Pirates' lead back to 14 with 5:50 remaining, and despite baskets from both sides down the stretch, the game remained out of reach.
