Four Blue Demons finish in double figures for second-straight game
INDIANAPOLIS -- A late push brought the Blue Demons within two possessions in the final minute of the game, but DePaul came up short in a 73–67 setback at Butler on Wednesday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse. In a physical, fast-paced contest, the Bulldogs created separation at the free throw line, converting 25 of 29 attempts.
Four Blue Demons finished in double figures for the second straight game, led by Ally Timm and Michelle Ojo with 12 points apiece. Timm connected on 4-of-6 attempts from beyond the arc, while Ojo reached double figures for the third consecutive contest. Alayna West added 11 points on 62-percent shooting from the field to go along with two steals, and Kate Novik chipped in 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
The Bulldogs were led by Saniya Jackson, who posted a team-high 22 points and 10 rebounds.
How It Happened
After Butler scored the game's first two baskets, back-to-back triples from Hagemann gave DePaul its first lead of the game. The Bulldogs responded with a 7–0 run before Newman knocked down her first field goal to halt the surge. Butler shot 63 percent in the opening quarter and held a 20–12 lead after 10 minutes.
DePaul (4-17, 1-9 BIG EAST) opened the second quarter by converting four of its first five field goals, cutting the deficit to 26–21 at the media timeout. The Blue Demons were then held scoreless for 4:45 before Timm drained consecutive three-pointers, including a buzzer-beater to end the half. Butler owned a 31–27 advantage at the break.
Trailing by as many as 10 in the third quarter, the Blue Demons showed resilience, scoring on four of their final six possessions to close within 47–43 heading into the final quarter.
Hitting five of their final seven field goals, the Blue Demons pulled within four on Timm's fourth three-pointer of the night with 25 seconds remaining but would get no closer as the Bulldogs held on for the win.
