DePaul faces Kennesaw State and Indiana this weekend
CHICAGO – The Scarlet and Blue are set to make the journey down to Bloomington, Ind., for the first time since 2020 with a pair of weekend matches against the Kennesaw State Owls and Indiana Hoosiers.
Action begins against the Owls on Friday, Jan. 24, at 10 a.m. CT from the IU Tennis Center, followed by a match with the Hoosiers slated for Saturday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m. CT. DePaul has never faced Kennesaw State and holds 17 all-time meetings with Indiana.
Junior Sasha Stula comes into play on a three-match winning streak in singles. The Gifu, Japan native made her debut on court one a week ago, winning over UC San Diego and Grand Canyon. Stula leads the team with 12 overall singles victories.
Roberta Sechi also tallied a match victory on singles court five versus UC San Diego. The junior started slowly in tournament play and rebounded to take both dual season matches to three sets.
Stula and Freshman Yasemin Pehlivan sit at a 6-3 clip in the second doubles spot. The pair held the lead in both of their opening weekend matches, but the contests ultimately ended unfinished.
DePaul looks to improve on closing out matches this time around. In the opening weekend, the Blue Demons lost five combined singles matches after winning the first set.
Kennesaw State is led by 8th-year head coach Matt Emery. The Owls claimed three-straight winning seasons before finishing 7-8 a season ago. Emery also serves as the director of tennis for Kennesaw State, overseeing duties for the men's program.
The Hoosiers are coached by Gabrielle Moore, who is in her second season. In her first campaign, Indiana tallied an 8-15 record and went 8-7 at home. Prior to Indiana, Moore coached at McNeese State for two seasons, posting a 35-10 overall mark. Junior Magdalena Swierczynska returns to the program after posting a 6-4 singles record in 2025.
