Women’s tennis’ suffers first loss at home since Mar. 22, 2025

CHICAGO – After a 4-0 start at home, DePaul women's tennis lost in a tight match against Eastern Michigan, 4-3. The all-time series between DePaul and Eastern Michigan women's tennis now lies 4-3 in the Eagles' favor, with this decision interrupting DePaul's recent dominance in the matchup. XS Tennis Village hosted the match.

In the doubles portion, the No. 1 pairing Hannah Smith and Clara Nilsson swiftly took their match 6-2. The No. 2 duo Helin Alvarez and Roberta Sechi narrowly dropped their battle 4-6. Sasha Stula and Yasemin Pehlivan forfeited their matchup, giving the doubles point to the Eagles.

Before singles action started, Stula forfeited her match at the No. 6 court. Sechi made quick work of her opposition, winning 6-0, 6-2, giving DePaul a much-needed point. At No. 5 singles, Alvarez battled, but dropped the court in 1-6, 3-6 decision, making the score 3-1 in favor of Eastern Michigan. Pehlivan prevailed 6-0, 1-6, 6-1, extending her team-high unbeaten singles streak to seven games. After early success, Nilsson went down 7-5, 0-6, 2-6, clinching the Eagles' victory. Although the match finished, Smith fought back from triple match point and 2-5 down, to triumph in the third set 7-5 and pass her test.
