DePaul bounces back with strong second round Monday
The third and final round tees off Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 7:15 a.m. CT.
"We learned a lot in the first round as we worked through some early tournament rust," said head coach Ryan Jamison. "The guys care deeply and hold themselves to a high standard, so they were motivated to raise their level. I'm really proud of how they responded in the second round—showing resilience, focus, and real grit."
Chery had a standout day, shooting 73 (+1) in the first round before an impressive 68 (-4) in the second. Chery enters Tuesday's final round with a chance for his second-straight top-10 tournament finish. Rohan Gopaldas also made significant strides, finishing tied for 33rd with a 149 (+5), bouncing back from a challenging opening round of 77 (+5) to an even-par 72 in the second.
"I also want to commend North for an outstanding performance. He truly stood out and delivered a strong second round effort. He's only beginning to tap into his potential, and it's exciting to think about what's ahead for him and for our team." Jamison added.
As a team, DePaul improved dramatically from an opening-round 312 (+24) to a second-round 285 (-3). Part of the improvement came from Dominic Lucchesi with a 69 (-3) in the second round. Lucchesi sits tied for 61st overall with a 154 (+10).Austin Scott and Sam Mortell both tied for 80th, each carding a total of 158 (+14). Scott shot rounds of 82 (+10) and 76 (+4), while Mortell had rounds of 80 (+8) and 78 (+6).
