PROVIDENCE, R.I. – DePaul men's basketball looks to return to the win column Saturday as the Blue Demons head on the road to face Providence. Tipoff from Amica Mutual Pavilion is set for 3 p.m. CT on FS1 with Dave Sims and Vin Parise on the call. Zach Zaidman and Dave Corzine will have DePaul's radio broadcast on SiriusXM and the DePaul Blue Demons app.
LAST TIME OUT
A strong defensive effort for DePaul (12-11, 4-8 BIG EAST) wasn't enough Tuesday evening against No. 22 St. John's as the Blue Demons fell, 68-56. DePaul held the Red Storm to their fewest first-half points (30) and lowest first-half field goal percentage of the season (.300).
The Blue Demons' defense continues to rank among the conference's best, holding BIG EAST opponents to under 70 points per game.
Layden Blocker recorded 13 points, marking his seventh-straight game in double figures. His streak ranks sixth-longest in the league, while Providence's Stefan Vaaks owns the BIG EAST's longest active streak at 23 games.
THE SERIES
Providence leads the all-time series, 41-14, including a 22-5 advantage at home. However, DePaul won the most recent meeting late in the 2024-25 season at Amica mutual Pavilion, rallying from a 10-point second half deficit. It marked the Blue Demons' first win the building since 2018. CJ Gunn scored a then-career high 23 points off the bench in the victory.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
Providence (10-13, 3-9 BIG EAST) snapped a four-game skid Wednesday with a double-overtime win over Butler, 97-87. The Friars are 8-4 at home this season. Jaylin Sellers scored a career-high 36 points in the win, knocking down six three-pointers.
As a team, Providence ranks 14th nationally and leads the BIG EAST in scoring at 88.4 points per game. The Friars also lead the conference in free throw percentage (76.9) and rebounds per game (39.0). Sellers averages a team-high 17.0 points per game, while Vaaks ranks fifth in the league at 15.8. Oswin Erhunmwunse ranks 11th nationally with 2.48 blocks per game.
UP NEXT
DePaul returns home for a midweek contest against Creighton, Wednesday, Feb. 11. The game tips at 8 p.m. from Wintrust Arena.
