Heptathlon Events Kick Off Busy Weekend in Des Moines

McArdle, Phillips see the first Blue Demons action Wednesday
DES MOINES, Iowa – DePaul track and field opened the Drake Relays on Wednesday with a pair of multi-event student athletes competing in the first segment of the women's heptathlon. Freshman duo Aubrey Phillips and Ashleigh McArdle kicked off the action for the Blue Demons with performances in the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, and 200m events.
Phillips posted a compiled score of 2907 through the first four events, grabbing a sixth-place performance in women's shot put and a seventh place performance in the women's high jump, placing her in ninth across the field after initial competition.
McArdle followed closely behind, racking up 2818 points in the opening session. Her fifth-place performance in the women's shot put, and tenth place effort in the women's high jump helped propel her to the tenth spot overall.
The two DePaul freshmen boast the highest overall placement among first-year participants across the group.

The Blue Demons will continue action at the Drake Relays Thursday. April 23, as a full slate of medium distance, relays, and throwing events are set to take place starting at 10:00 a.m. CT.
